Kaitlin Harris Kaitlin's Story

Kaitlin A. Harris
February 1, 1989 – March 25, 2004

"Wings to Live"...words from a young fifteen year old living angel, who graced our lives with beauty, inspiration, loyalty, love and joy. Our beautiful, brown eyed girl, with a smile to melt your cares away and a laugh that was pure delight...Kaitlin Abigail Harris.

From the day Kaitlin was born we tagged her as our "Angel". She could do no wrong and was just every parents dream child! Kaitlin often expressed herself in poetry and in art. One theme she began to write about as a young, young girl was about flying..."soaring". Whether it was on a horse, or a bird, she was obsessed with being able to just soar in the sky, high above all things, just enjoying the freedom and beauty that she felt and saw. She used this experience to share her joys and her journey into the darkness of depression. She saw herself riding on a horse to celebrate her experience with success and pure elation and in her battle with the darkness as a bird, relating to "I know why the caged bird sings..." So in touch with her feelings and so eloquently expressed. It is hard for most adults to feel and then express their feelings but Kaitlin had a way of drawing it, writing it that put you right in the emotion with her. Her final piece of poetry was written just a week before her death and so profound it is...

...Wings to Live...

"I have wings to fly…to soar over my troubles, to glide thru sadness, to pass over danger safely.

I have wings to glide thru life. The turbulence brings some down, the stronger continue to fly...in the sky…unbound continuity. Some do not have these wins they are tied to the ground. Those without wings have not felt the highs and low…the ecstasy of life itself.

I, I have wings to continue on thru the barriers and easy passes. Thru the bad days and the best days, though neither ever last.

I have wings to love, to glide thru the tough times, to soar high. Alive with life itself.

I have wings to live the life that is my own..."

Kaitlin Harris, March, 2004

On March 25, 2004, our beautiful daughter succumbed to the pain of her own darkness and hopelessness from depression. She wrote these words on her mirror and drew an angel next to it. Her loss has changed us all and her life and words continue to carry us with memories of a precious young lady...gone too soon. Our Kaitlin did get her wings on that dark and heart breaking day...she became an Angel…our Angel! In her memory we carry on the message of hope and healing from depression and the promise of finding peace in this world! With Wings to LIVE!
